General Entry Requirements

To enrol in the BSB30120 Certificate III in Business, learners are expected to meet the following requirements:

  • Age: Must be at least 15 years old (school students may enrol as part of a VET in Schools program).
  • Education: Completion of Year 10 or equivalent, or relevant work or life experience.
  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN): Learners must demonstrate sufficient LLN skills to undertake the course. An LLN assessment may be required before enrolment.
  • Access to technology: Ability to access a computer or digital device with internet connection for online learning and assessment activities.
  • Workplace access (if applicable): Learners completing this qualification as a traineeship or workplace-based program must have access to suitable work tasks and supervision.

Additional Requirements for Funded Training

NSW – Smart and Skilled Funding:
To be eligible for government-subsidised training under the Smart and Skilled program, learners must:

  • Be 15 years or older and no longer at school.
  • Live or work in New South Wales.
  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand citizen.
  • Meet any specific criteria for the program (for example, New Entrant trainees must have commenced their traineeship within three months of starting employment, or within three months of completing probation).

Tasmania – Apprentices and Trainees Training Fund (ATTF):
To access funding through the ATTF, learners must:

  • Be employed in Tasmania in a role that supports the qualification.
  • Be registered under a Traineeship Training Contract with a Tasmanian employer.
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or hold permanent residency.
  • Undertake training with a Skills Tasmania–approved RTO, such as Programmed Skilled Workforce.

Funding Information

Eligible learners may have their tuition fees reduced or fully subsidised through Smart and Skilled (NSW) or the Apprentices and Trainees Training Fund (ATTF) in Tasmania.

Assessments for the Certificate III in Business (Distance Learning) are designed to validate both your theoretical understanding and practical workplace skills in realistic business contexts.

  • Online Knowledge Quizzes – short, self-paced quizzes covering key areas such as communication, customer service, work health and safety, sustainability, teamwork, and digital literacy.
  • Practical Assessments – completed through simulated workplace scenarios using a fictional business. Tasks include:
    • Projects – plan, organise, and deliver business tasks to meet set requirements.
    • Portfolios – compile workplace-style documents, records, and evidence of your skills.
    • Case Study Assessments – analyse real-world scenarios and propose practical solutions.
