Course Overview

Official Course Title

TLILIC0003 – Licence to operate a forklift truck

Course Overview

This two-day forklift course is designed for experienced learners who already have practical exposure to forklifts or similar materials-handling equipment and are seeking the training and assessment required to apply for a Forklift Truck (LF) High Risk Work Licence in NSW.

The course focuses on planning forklift work, completing safety checks, identifying hazards, operating and manoeuvring a forklift, moving loads safely and shutting down equipment correctly. TLILIC0003 is part of the NSW high risk work licensing pathway; completing the unit does not itself issue the licence.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is suited to experienced learners, including:

  • workers who have previous experience working with or around forklift trucks
  • workers who have previously operated forklifts under appropriate workplace supervision
  • warehouse, logistics, manufacturing and distribution workers with relevant materials-handling experience
  • workers experienced with similar mobile plant or equipment
  • people with experience operating an Order-Picking Forklift (LO) who are seeking the separate LF forklift class
  • experienced workers who need to complete formal training and assessment as part of the NSW LF High Risk Work Licence application process

In NSW, LF and LO are separate high risk work licence classes.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll develop and demonstrate the skills required to safely operate a forklift truck, including:

  • identifying workplace hazards and applying appropriate risk controls
  • completing pre-start checks and identifying equipment faults
  • interpreting forklift data plates, load information and operating limits
  • safely starting, driving and manoeuvring a forklift in workplace conditions
  • picking up, moving, positioning and placing loads safely
  • correctly parking, securing and shutting down the forklift

The national assessment requirements include practical operation with loads, safe manoeuvring, pre-start inspections, hazard management and correct shutdown procedures.
