Course Overview

Official Course Title

TLILIC0003 – Licence to operate a forklift truck

Course Overview

This three-day forklift course is designed for beginner learners with little or no previous forklift operating experience who are seeking the training and assessment required to apply for a Forklift Truck (LF) High Risk Work Licence in NSW.

The course provides additional time to develop practical forklift skills, covering safety checks, hazard identification, forklift controls, manoeuvring, load handling and correct shutdown procedures. TLILIC0003 forms part of the NSW high risk work licensing pathway; completing the unit does not itself issue the licence.

Who Is This Course For?

This course is suited to beginner learners, including:

  • people with little or no previous forklift operating experience
  • new entrants to warehousing, logistics, manufacturing and distribution environments
  • workers who need to operate a forklift as part of their current or future role
  • workers who have been around forklifts but have limited practical operating experience
  • people who would benefit from additional practical training before completing the high risk work licence assessment
  • learners seeking to complete formal training and assessment as part of the NSW LF High Risk Work Licence application process

In NSW, LF and LO are separate high risk work licence classes.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll build the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a forklift truck, including:

  • identifying workplace hazards and applying appropriate risk controls
  • completing pre-start checks and identifying equipment faults
  • understanding forklift controls, data plates, load information and operating limits
  • safely starting, driving and manoeuvring a forklift
  • picking up, moving, positioning and placing loads safely
  • correctly parking, securing and shutting down the forklift

The three-day format provides beginner learners with additional time to practise forklift operation and develop their skills before completing the required assessment.
