Course Overview

Confined Space Entry is a one-day course designed to give workers the practical skills and knowledge needed to safely enter and work in confined spaces. Training covers permit requirements, hazard identification and analysis, atmospheric monitoring, safe work methods, PPE and safe entry and exit procedures. Participants complete classroom-based learning as well as practical activities using safety equipment in simulated workplace situations.

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • have the physical ability to complete practical confined space activities, which may include climbing ladders while maintaining three points of contact, wearing a full body harness, being suspended in a harness, entering and working in a confined space, and manual handling
  • have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to read, interpret, complete and communicate workplace documents and procedures and perform basic calculations
  • successfully complete an LLN assessment
  • be at least 18 years of age
  • Participants are recommended to provide and wear a hard hat, long clothing, steel cap boots and gloves.

 

Certification / Outcome

On successful completion, the course outcomes are:

  • RIIWHS202E – Enter and work in confined spaces
  • RIIRIS201E – Conduct local risk control
  • MSMPER200 – Work in accordance with an issued permit
  • MSMWHS201 – Conduct hazard analysis
